Sanni Pyhänniska

My work connects people and nature in a world of bold colour, texture, and pattern. Leaning into the immediacy of making by hand, and the element of surprise in printmaking, experimentation and play make up a big part of my mark making. Finding inspiration from memory, feeling, and conversation, connection is at the heart of my work. My work is like a collection of diary entries, where the palpable subjectivity of its message often blurs the line between real and fantasy. Where my work is incredibly personal, it is also inherently female. The delicate moments I capture in my work emerge from relationship, friendship, and daughterhood. Nature on the other hand, whilst very magical to me, also represents something stable – the only space I feel I can claim to belong in.
