I am Raquel Blazquez, an artist based in Bristol, exploring the inner world of women through portraiture.
‘Becoming’ is a new body of work created at the beginning of my pregnancy. These paintings reflect transformation, creation, and the quiet wisdom of the body.
Through portraits of women connected to nature, I explore parallels between feminine change and the cycles of spring: rebirth, growth, and new beginnings. My focus is the woman’s experience—often overlooked as society centers the baby while neglecting the physical and psychological transformation of becoming a mother: matrescence.
While deeply personal, this series is not only about pregnancy. It speaks to any moment of becoming: motherhood, healing, reinvention, love, or the courage to begin again. These works honor the many ways women transform and create life, purpose, and possibility.
