I lived in Africa which inspired the bright colours I use in my work. I developed this style of painting when I lived in Cape Town and I term it Line Art or PopArt. I have recently discovered the artist Michael Craig-Martin and his wonderful use of colour has also inspired me. I have no idea why it took me so long to find him.
These works are acrylic, as opposed to my small oil paintings that I also create, mainly of fruit and vegetables.
I am drawn to sparseness in my Line Art pieces, a combination of aloneness, yet also peace and tranquility, as shown in my series ‘Alone Not Lonely’. In my other series ‘She Is Unknown’, I portray women with no facial detail, or no head at all. Women are so often viewed through the lens of their beauty, but we are so much more than that.
Please refer to my website for more information on each painting.
