A long period of creative dormancy followed a career working for the national press sports photographer in my 20s. In recent years however I have become engrossed by landscape painting.
My work has evolved from creations of remembered locations, to plein air paintings. My aim now is not to faithfully reproduce a landscape; more convey both a visual and emotional expression of a location and a moment, expressing light and textures in a way the camera cannot.
I work in oils and acrylics, favouring a pallet knife: a tool just as often used for firing my paint onto surfaces, as it is for spreading it. My works are multilayered and textured, with what is scratched away being as important as what is laid down. Repurposed rubbish found in situ is often incorporated, adding not just texture, but a sense of place.
