I originally trained as an illustrator but during lockdown in 2020 I decided to move away from representational art and concentrate on abstraction. The still lives I had been working on up until that point had been travelling in that direction.
I play with simple geometric shapes and a limited colour palette to create paintings that aim to be balanced but with a sense of movement, rhythm and depth to them.
I take inspiration from collages I have made and photographs I have taken of shapes that interest me. In my recent paintings there are elements of typography and the built environment. Sometimes this is intentional and sometimes the shapes just appear as if summoned from memory.
