I paint mostly oils on canvas – of street scenes or landscapes. I’ve always gravitated towards oil paints: I love the way they feel, the way they smell, the way they can build up colour, depth and complexity layer by layer.
As a scientist in my everyday work, I enjoy the precision of numbers and process. Painting allows for a different kind of experimentation, I approach each new painting in a different way, sometimes carefully and with detailed planning, sometimes more haphazardly. I enjoy playing with the process and seeing how the results differ each time.
In my paintings, I try to capture the play of light and colour, the feeling of movement or the road travelled and chosen. I like to explore the spaces between people, the isolation of landscapes, and the quiet, reflective moments that define our individual journeys.
