Barney Wharam is a Bristol-based artist living near Victoria Park. He is captivated by images that evoke a wide range of emotions and is especially drawn to how colour interacts with these feelings. Barney enjoys working with thick paint and has a particular fascination with faces, focusing on the expressive power of people’s eyes. He is also passionate about the history and culture of places, finding special appeal in everyday Bristol. In his artistic practice, Barney integrates these influences through different mediums:
- Painting: Creating vibrant portraits of musicians, local Bristol figures, and icons using acrylics or oils.
- Collages: He captures the vibe of specific locations by taking hundreds of photos during walks, printing them out, tearing them up, and assembling them into collages that offer a “remix” of the place.
- Printmaking: Barney explores more abstract themes using relief and monoprinting.
