Jess Skelton’s work is sourced in the thrown vessel and employs disruptive techniques that push the material up to and over its limits. Intuitive and material lead process is central.
Jess is inspired by dereliction, precariousness and irreverence. She is particularly drawn to what she calls ‘The Shadowlands’, the physical spaces out beyond the veneers of society, where the natural world is in the process of exposing and reclaiming humanity’s interventions. The work expresses hopes for a time when we are able to value the multiplicity of human experience and cohabit with the wildness of the natural world, rather than continuing on a trajectory of domination and conformity.
